Join me as we study Hymns for the Heart each month throughout 2025. We will be meditating on the words and truths of twelve beloved hymns of the faith. 

On this episode, we hear the story of Carolina Sandell and the tragic event that led her to pen the words of this beloved hymn. Through the loss of her father, she learned rich truths about her heavenly Father that sustained her and strengthened her faith. You will be encouraged to trust the heart of your Father as He promises to give us strength for each day.

Episode 3: Jesus Paid It All

Jesus paid it all, All to Him I owe; Sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.

Jesus Christ is sufficient to be the payment for our sins! Though our sin left a crimson stain, He can wash us white as snow. It is good for us to reflect on the gift we have in salvation. Join me as we discuss truths learned in the hymn, “Jesus Paid It All.” May it remind us that we owe our all to Him!

Episode 4: God Leads Us Along

In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet, God leads His dear children along;

As we continue through our book study of Great Hymns for Growing Hearts, we come to the hymn God Leads Us Along. This is a beautiful hymn that reminds us of truths we learn about our great Shepherd in Psalm 23. Whether we go through the waters, floods, or fire, God promises to lead us. We can find peace and rest in Him through all the seasons life brings.

Episode 5: It Is Well

Whaterver my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul.

Years ago I heard the story behind the writing of this hymn. Having my eyes opened to the heartbreaking circumstances that led to the writing of this beautiful hymn would change me. I realized that there is rich depth to the hymns we sing in worship. This changed how I worshipped the Lord through song. I began to see God’s character shining through hymns I had sung since my childhood.

Episode 6: Near the Cross

In the cross, in the cross, Be my glory ever; Till my raptured soul shall find rest beyond the river.

The gospel has the power to transform lives, not just for eternity but in our everyday living. Jesus wants us to have life abundant. This is found when we keep our attention focused on the cross.

Episode 7: Tis So Sweet to Trust In Jesus

‘Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, “Thus saith the Lord.”

The words of this hymn came from a grieving heart. As Louisa Stead reflected on the devastating loss of her husband, she found strength for the future as she trusted in her Lord. We can glean truths from this hymn that will help us walk in the confidence of the Lord on life’s good days and on life’s most challenging days.

Episode 8: Here is Love

Here is love, vast as the ocean, Loving-kindness as the flood,

When the Prince of Life, our Ransom, Shed for us His precious blood.

This beautiful hymn full of rich truth about our Lord is known as the “love song” of the Welsh revival. In this epsiode, we learn more about God’s vast love for us and the sacrifice He made to extend that love to us.

Episode 9: Come Thou Fount

Come, thou Fount of every blessing;
tune my heart to sing thy grace;
streams of mercy, never ceasing,
call for songs of loudest praise.

In this episode, we explore the timeless hymn “Come Thou Fount” and its powerful message of redemption. Discover how God, our Redeemer, ransoms us from the bondage of sin, as vividly reflected in the life of the hymn’s writer, Robert Robinson. Once a wayward young man, Robinson’s heart was transformed by the gospel, inspiring this beloved hymn of worship.

Episode 10: All The Way My Saviour Leads Me

For I know, whate’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.

In this episode, we dive into the hymn “All the Way My Savior Leads Me” by Fanny Crosby. We learn that our God is leads us and is trustworthy. Proverbs 16:9 says that the Lord directs our steps. Whatever you are facing in your life, you can find peace in knowing that all the way, your Savior will lead you!

Episode 11: I Must Tell Jesus

I must tell Jesus all of my trials; I cannot bear these burdens alone;
In my distress He kindly will help me; He ever loves and cares for His own.

God choses different paths for different people. No matter the trial, He promises to give the grace required to live out the life He has perfectly chosen for each of us. When life brings challenges or sorrows, we must tell Jesus! He will sustain us. We do not need to bear our burdens alone. He is with us!

Episode 12: God Will Take Care of You

God will take care of you, Through every day, o’er all the way…

Throughout our lives, we pick up burdens—big and small—that quietly grow into worry, fear, and overwhelm. We weren’t meant to carry them alone.

In this episode, we look at one of the most tender invitations in Scripture: “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7). God doesn’t just offer to take our anxieties; He promises to shoulder them completely and to carry us through every storm.
